Championships were cherished.
Athleticism was recognized.
Commitment, effort and dedication were rewarded
.

The grandest event in the sporting calendar of the University of Moratuwa – ‘Colours awards 2010’ was held on the 8th of April 2011 at the Civil Engineering auditorium, University of Moratuwa. The event was graced with the presence of Chief guest H.E. Bruce Levy, the Canadian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and his gracious wife Mrs. Ingrid Knutson.  The extensive list of dignitaries to accompany the chief guest was headlined by the Guest of honour for the evening, Vice Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa, Prof. Malik Ranasinghe. Dean, Faculty of Architecture, Prof. P.K.S. Mahanama, Chairman of the sports advisory board - UoM, Prof. Saman Samarawickrama and senior treasurer Dr. (Mrs.) Sanja Gunawardena were also among those who were present at this glamorous event.

It was the time to appreciate the countless days of hard work, immeasurable efforts and dedication put in by the athletic, adroit sportsmen and women all over the university. An outstanding showing at the SLUG 2010 that saw the University of Moratuwa emerging as Men’s champions and 2nd runner-up overall was all due to this hard work and it was finally the night to celebrate.
Fittingly, to start things off, it was the visionaries - the captains of the respective sports teams who were recognized first and were awarded with colours. They were followed by their fellow teammates who then received colours for their performances. Special awards were also presented to the best player in each team. The year 2010 was an eventful year for all sports teams in the university that brought much glory by way of championships and other achievements. These trophies won by University of Moratuwa were also duly recognized at the ceremony.

The evening then saw some very special individuals being rewarded with some very special awards for putting all limits to the test, to achieve the seemingly impossible in 2010.
The Malik Jahn memorial award for the coloursman who obtained the best academic average in level 1 was awarded to K.I.U. Nanayakkara.
The Daham Anuradha memorial award for the coloursman with the highest 2nd year GPA was awarded to K. Kandasamy.
The all round sportsman of the year award presented to the sportsperson who has reached the best in sports by engaging in not just one sport but many, went to M.C. Hettiwatte.
Performers who succeeded in hoisting Sri Lankan university pride with their outstanding performance in the international arena were highly regarded and for representing Sri Lanka at the 39th Chess Olympiad 2010 in Khanty, Mansisk, Russia, W.S.V.K. Koggala was awarded the most outstanding sportsman of the year and P.R. Senanayake was awarded the most outstanding sportswoman of the year.
Finally, it was time for the coveted best all round student of the year award, presented to an outstanding student and an extraordinary sportsperson, who excelled in the class room as well as the sports field. The winner for the year 2010 for achieving this remarkable feat was H.Y. Amarakoon.
Colours Awards 2010, marked the end of another extremely successful year for sports in the University of Moratuwa on a high note. It was a sight to behold, a night of appreciation and an event of glamour.
