The Inter University Regatta is the benchmark event of university rowing in Sri Lanka. It is considered to be the most coveted championship to win among university oarsmen and oarswomen. The regatta was first held in 1980 and ever since has been held 26 times. The regatta, dubbed as the local version of Oxford – Cambridge boat race, has primarily featured the crews from the University of Moratuwa (Mora Rowing) and the University of Colombo. It is noteworthy that this is also the 2nd oldest Regatta in the history of Sri Lankan Rowing. This year the regatta is organized as part of the Sri Lanka University Games 2010.

Time and date

1st of October (Friday) at Colombo Rowing Club premises from 1.30 pm to 6.30 pm.

Over the past 25 regattas University of Colombo is leading the tally, but university of Moratuwa leads the tally in the recent years.

University of Moratuwa has been able to come up strong and win the last two years’ regatta under the captaincy of Pradeep Dalpatadu(2008),and Lakmal Arandara(2009) after consecutive losses in 2004,2005,2006,2007. In both those years the regatta has gone down to the wire where, Moratuwa graduates went to win the regatta by winning the final and the most prestigious race “the Boat Race” (A Four)
