UOM Cricket Season Begins on a Winning Note

The UOM Cricket team recorded their biggest win in history against P.C.R.C (Professionals' C.R. Club) at the first round match of the Colombo Division III, played at the university grounds. This match marked the beginning of the new season for UOM cricket under the captaincy of Sahan Perera. Playing his first match as the captain, Sahan dazzled spectators by scoring a century. Bowlers, Nisitha Wijewardena and Daminda Dhananjaya also made their maiden five wicket hauls.

The UOM team won the toss and elected to bat. Opener Nuwan Marasinghe scored a solid 62 runs and provided a good foundation for the innings. The former captain, Randika Perera who was back after an injury scored a quick fire 18 runs and propelled the score further. Geeth Sankalpa, a newcomer scored a half century and built a partnership of 91 runs for the 8th wicket. The UOM team ended their innings with a gigantic score of 394 runs.

With a mammoth total at hand, team P.C.R.C. was under pressure right from the start. The P.C.R.C. batsmen were not allowed to settle down by the UOM bowlers. Seamer Nisitha ripped through the top order by taking 5 wickets for 34 runs. With the loss of early wickets, the P.C.R.C batsmen were not able to rebuild their innings. Mahendralal was the highest scorer for P.C.R.C. with 20 runs. Anuradha, the last man to bat also managed to add 15 runs to the scoreboard. The rest of the batsmen crumbled under the pressure and were unable to reach two figure scores. The UOM bowlers managed to get all P.C.R.C. batsmen out for just 74 runs at the end of 17.4 overs

With a massive win in their first match of the season, the UOM Cricket team will look forward to carry this momentum and progress through the tournament with confidence.
